Hi Torbjörn, firstly apologies for the delay in replying - both Mike and I have been horrendously busy for the last couple of months and the blog has been a little neglected. Hope to be back on course soon.

Good to hear of another Caol Ila fan; what shame you didn't take some with you from Heathrow because it's a lot better in a glass than a plastic tumbler!

How are you liking the Ardbeg? To me it tastes rather dryer than its Islay relative but there's no question that it's high quality. As you may have seen I've also become re-acquainted with Lagavulin and am much enjoying the experience. Astonishing the differences between the three of them.

My reviews are going to work up the West coast with a detour to Campbeltown on the way so I hope you'll find them enlightening. Talisker and Caol Ila remain my firm favourites though, so I hope you manage to come by a Caol Ila at some stage.

I remember the taste of Caol Ila, 12 years old, fondly. It was served to me in a small clear plastic cup inside a liqour store at Heathrow, London on my way back home to Florida. I loved the fishy, smokey, salty, seaweedy taste but didn't pick up a bottle. Now, a few years later, here in Florida, for the first time I bought two bottles of Ardbeg, 10 years old, because the brand was on sale. I sure hope it tastes something like that Caol Ila. If not I may have to buy a bottle of Caol Ila and see if it tastes as good as my memory tells me it does. It's a money issue. American bourbon can be had at a third of the price.

Hi Graeme, glad you liked the review, enjoy the trout! And if you find another Islay that goes better with it let me know.

The Royal Overseas League isn't a pub - more a legacy of our bygone colonial past. It's a four floor building on Princes St. See http://www.rosl-edinburgh.org/
I was there because a literary society that I'm chairman of hold their AGMs there. Small bar but the selection is good quality.

I'm intrigued by the name of the pub: the royal overseas league. Sounds like somewhere I need to visit.

Good review - not sure about the smoked trout idea. I might nip into Tesco on way homoe and test out your ideas.
